Abu Dhabi Private Schools sets maximum screen time for kindergarten and first year during remote learning

Private schools in Abu Dhabi have circulated a distance education plan during the next stage, based on the new distance learning policy issued by the Department of Education and Knowledge. Schools allocated the first 15 minutes to check on the mental health of students, and also allocated an hour and a half at the end of the school day for the (1 to 1) program. The plan also specified the maximum screen time per class: 10 continuous minutes for kindergarten students, 15 minutes for first year students, 30 minutes for second year students, and 35 minutes for third year students.

In detail, the study plan that the students’ families received via email, “Emirates Today viewed it,” stipulated that time be allocated: (7:45 – 8:00 a.m.) to record attendance, follow up on the students’ well-being, and clarify the day’s expectations, with official classes being held from 08:00 a.m. to 12:50 p.m., with a balance achieved between flexible learning (direct and indirect), with the teacher’s presence via the school’s education platform, noting that this was designed The system reduces constant exposure to screens, while maintaining the quality of education.

The study plan stated that the evening period from 12:50 pm to 02:10 pm will be allocated for individual follow-up sessions and supporting the students’ well-being, in addition to providing them with the opportunity to complete any remaining study assignments independently away from the school learning platform, and no formal classes will be held during this period.

Kindergarten
The plan set the maximum continuous screen time for kindergarten students at 10 minutes during one class, where the class structure consists of: the first 5 minutes: live explanation, 30 minutes: work without a screen (with the teacher continuing to follow along online), while the last 5 minutes are allocated for review and completing assignments, noting that teachers must prepare and share all resources in advance for printing and focus on practical and recreational activities away from screens.

First episode
For students in grades one to five, the maximum screen time is 15 minutes per class. The class structure is divided (mandatory): the first 10 minutes are explanation, the first 25 minutes are: activity without a screen (with the teacher following up online), the last 5 minutes are for review and completing assignments. All resources must be prepared in advance for printing and teachers must stay for the duration of the class. All activities must be without a screen and prepared in advance.
