35 new parks in Dubai at a cost of 348 million dirhams

Dubai Municipality announced its plans to open 35 new parks during the current year, at a cost of 348 million dirhams, on an area of ​​340 thousand square meters, to be added to the public community spaces in 23 residential communities, in a qualitative step that enhances the network of public entertainment and community destinations that support community interaction and cohesion.

These projects come in line with the objectives of the “Water and Green Spaces Roadmap 2030”, which was launched by the municipality as part of a comprehensive strategic vision, aiming to strengthen the system of water and green spaces in the emirate, and with a package of projects worth more than four billion dirhams, including the addition of more than 120 parks, 200 sports fields and recreational spaces integrated within the networks and green spaces during the next five years.

The parks’ locations were carefully selected according to planning criteria that ensure access to them within a five-minute walk from the surrounding neighbourhoods, thus enhancing the integration of recreational spaces into daily life, and ensuring equitable access to high-quality public spaces throughout the emirate. All parks will be developed as open, non-fenced spaces that blend smoothly and seamlessly with the surrounding neighborhoods and reflect their local identity. The unique designs will ensure the consolidation of their role as daily community centers, in addition to remaining able to keep pace with climate and infrastructure changes. Flexible.

Dubai Municipality seeks to make these new parks ideal places, to strengthen community ties through targeted programs and coordinated experiences, in addition to establishing the principle of seasonal activation, and providing offers tailored to different age groups, in addition to encouraging residents to visit and discover the content of the parks throughout the year, prolonging the duration of the visit, and raising the level of visitor satisfaction.

Badr Anwahi, Executive Director of the Public Utilities Corporation at Dubai Municipality, said: “The package of new parks projects represents an advanced step in the process of implementing the goals of the afforestation and gardens strategy 2040, and the road map for water and green spaces 2030, and reflects our keenness to accelerate the completion and implementation of public parks and neighborhood parks in Dubai, and our commitment to expanding the network of public and community spaces, within a harmonious urban system that is centered around people and supports their well-being and community cohesion. By placing parks within a short walking distance, and designing them according to the actual needs of the community, we are establishing a new standard for the role of public spaces in enhancing the quality of life and supporting sustainable urban growth in the emirate.”

Environmental resilience is embodied in park designs by integrating biodiversity, climate adaptation, and sustainable systems into the design and operation of parks. Initiatives include expanding tree planting, using recycled irrigation water, and applying renewable energy solutions, in addition to employing artificial intelligence and robotics technologies, to enhance environmental governance, reduce resource consumption, and support environmental balance in the long term.

The new parks are characterized by an integrated design that adopts five main zones that ensure comprehensiveness and continuity of use throughout the day and activation throughout the year. They include: play areas designated for early childhood, children’s playgrounds that encourage movement, sports facilities for youth and adults, and selected social and experimental spaces for food and beverages that establish the gardens as daily gathering spaces, in addition to a multi-use indoor hall, and a flexible community plaza that hosts events, celebrations, and activities for neighborhood residents.

Together, the parks include a wide range of facilities that support active lifestyles and social interaction, including more than 60 children’s play areas, 18 football fields, 20 multi-use sports fields, skating areas, running and cycling paths, in addition to open green spaces, shaded seating areas, picnic areas, water features, and food and beverage destinations.

Dubai Municipality has established a central database supported by garden models and patterns and flexible design standards, aiming to study the characteristics and needs of communities, ensuring that the quality of design and implementation is consistent with the expansion and development of future parks. This model, based on data and community needs, supports design and operation decisions, while maintaining unified standards at the emirate level.

Until the year 2040, Dubai Municipality will work to implement 310 new parks and develop more than 220 existing parks, as part of the goals of the afforestation and gardens strategy 2040. To form an interconnected network of personalized, seasonal, community-driven public spaces that people use regularly, feel connected to, and grow with.

Open invitation to the private sector

Dubai Municipality is opening the door to partners from the private sector, by inviting them to participate more broadly and benefit from new investment opportunities, through public-private partnership models, in a way that supports Dubai’s D33 Economic Agenda by accelerating implementation, promoting economic diversification, and creating sustainable growth in public spaces in the emirate. A unified regulatory framework will also ensure the achievement of consistent standards, operational efficiency, and long-term sustainability across the Dubai parks network.
