We sent weapons to demonstrators in Iran, but they did not arrive

US President Donald Trump said on Monday that he sent weapons to demonstrators in Iran, but pointed out that they did not reach them, the day after he accused the Kurds of keeping them.

Trump explained on the sidelines of an Easter celebration at the White House: “We sent weapons, many of the weapons that were supposed to reach (the Iranians) so that they could fight these scoundrels,” referring to the Iranian authorities.

“Do you know what happened? The people we sent it to kept it to themselves. So I’m very angry with a certain group of people, and they will pay dearly for this,” he added.

On Sunday, Trump accused the Kurds of keeping weapons intended for the demonstrators, in a phone interview conducted with him by a Fox News journalist, the contents of which were later revealed.

In his conversation with the network, Trump also said that the United States had tried to send weapons to protesters in Iran against the government, through Kurdish groups in the region.

A protest movement broke out in Iran in late December due to the high costs of living, before it expanded in scope and developed into anti-government demonstrations.

In January, Trump promised protesters that “help is on the way.”

“We sent weapons to the demonstrators, in large quantities,” he told Fox News on Sunday, before adding, “I think the Kurds kept the weapons.”
