No fees can be imposed on the Strait of Hormuz

The Omani Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, Engineer Saeed Al-Maawali, confirmed today that the Sultanate of Oman’s position is clear regarding the Strait of Hormuz, as it is a natural strait that man did not interfere in creating, so fees cannot be imposed on crossing through it.
On the sidelines of his appearance before the Omani Shura Council, Al-Ma’awali said that the Sultanate of Oman has signed all agreements related to international maritime transport, and fees cannot be imposed according to the signed agreements.
He added that there are many countries that have not signed the agreements, including Iran and the United States of America, and therefore there is a legal vacuum, stressing that “there is a discussion being conducted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and we hope that there will be an improvement for the better.”
