The forum comes in implementation of the directives of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah to honor literary figures who contributed to serving Arab culture. The forum is held for the seventh time in Egypt after it honored a group of Egyptian creators during its previous sessions.
The honoring ceremony was held at the headquarters of the Supreme Council of Culture in Cairo in the presence of His Excellency Abdullah bin Muhammad Al Owais, Chairman of the Department of Culture in Sharjah, Muhammad Ibrahim Al Qaseer, Director of the Department of Cultural Affairs in the Department, and Dr. Ashraf Al Azazi, Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Culture in Egypt, along with a large number of Egyptian and Arab writers, thinkers, and intellectuals.
In his speech, Al Owais recalled the beginnings of the launch of the Sharjah Forum for Cultural Honor, as Egypt witnessed its first tour, after which it continued a long journey across the Arab countries through a cultural initiative sponsored by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, in appreciation from His Highness for those with noble words and high endeavours.
Al Owais pointed out that the forum returns for the seventh time to Egypt to constitute a shining mark in the Arab cultural scene and a platform for celebrating thought and creativity and honoring literary figures who were loyal to Arab culture and made giving a message and knowledge a path to advance human beings.
He said that this ceremony is dedicated to honoring an elite group of Egyptian writers who carried their cultural contribution with deep thought and a broad humanitarian vision and contributed to enriching Arab culture and affirming its renewed presence. He pointed out that the honor comes in deserved appreciation for the cultural heritage that Egypt abounds with, and the writers, writers and poets who, over successive generations, have formed an essential pillar in the process of Arab literature and a flowing tributary of thought, enlightenment and beauty.
Al Owais stressed that this honor is an eloquent expression of the fruitful cooperation between the Sharjah Department of Culture and the Egyptian Ministry of Culture, which emerges from a well-established fraternal relationship between the United Arab Emirates and the Arab Republic of Egypt under the auspices of the wise leadership of the two countries.
For his part, Dr. Ashraf Al-Azzazi said: “We meet today in a distinguished celebration within the framework of the Sharjah Cultural Honors Forum initiative, which is covered by the generous patronage of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah and is managed by the Sharjah Department of Culture.”
He added that the Sharjah Cultural Honors Forum initiative seeks to honor intellectual and cultural figures from all over the Arab world. In addition, it is a well-deserved appreciation for those who lead the process of thought, creativity and enlightenment in their homelands. It is an incentive and motivation for these intellectuals to produce more and continue to supply the Arab cultural arena with their great intellectual works in the service of their countries, their communities and the issues of their nation. It is considered a message and incentive to their peers for more brilliance and creativity.
He explained that the Sharjah Forum for Cultural Honor establishes a new tradition in celebrating intellectuals and appreciating them so that they are honored in their countries and among their families, which carries profound meanings and connotations. He stressed that the intellectual is a product of his environment in which he grew up, was influenced by it, interacted with it and influenced it, which carries an appreciation for the cultural giving of this society and its role in creating the appropriate and stimulating climate for the creativity and brilliance of its intellectuals and thinkers.
The honorees expressed their happiness with the cultural honor, stressing that, thanks to the efforts of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Sharjah has become a pioneering pillar and the beating heart of Arab culture, caring for creative writers, poets and artists, and a center that embraces qualitative cultural initiatives that enhance communication between Arab intellectuals and contribute to spreading thought and knowledge and highlighting Arab creativity at the Arab and global levels.
The attendees followed a documentary presentation depicting scenes from the visits of the Sharjah Forum for Cultural Honor to Egypt, recalling the memory of the forum that started from Egypt and traveled the Arab world for more than twenty sessions.
The honoring ceremony was accompanied by an exhibition that included a number of publications from the Sharjah Department of Culture, including Sharjah Cultural Magazine, Al-Rafid Magazine, Al-Qawafi Magazine, and Theater Magazine, in addition to a number of books whose titles varied between poetry, novels, theatre, criticism, and other creative titles.
