The art critic warned against random confusion between popular success and artistic value, indicating that some works succeed due to their simplification and closeness to the recipient, which may establish superficial standards that harm the development of the industry in the long run.
In his evaluation of Saudi artistic works, he touched on the absence of “daring in the idea,” explaining that many productions go towards boldness. A formality that suffices with visual dazzle, without provoking thought or disturbing the recipient intellectually.
Entertaining Content
Al-Otaibi revealed that Social media platforms have created a state of “critical noise” that has made the task of evaluation more complex, calling for the development of entertainment content and ridding it of the circle of permanent superficiality to be more influential and lasting.
He stressed that the greatest challenge lies in maintaining deep analytical criticism and avoiding quick impressionism, considering that the absence of this interpretive approach keeps the artistic arena in the circle of temporary admiration without any real development.
