“Jaheziya” launches the first national program to qualify surgeons in emergency and disaster management

Yesterday, Saturday, the Emirates National Preparedness and Response Program “Jaheziya” launched the first specialized national program to qualify surgeons in emergency management and disaster preparedness, within its system, in a strategic step that reflects the UAE’s commitment to enhancing national health preparedness and building an integrated system capable of effective and rapid response to various emergencies and disasters.

The program continues for a week according to a schedule that includes a number of emirates of the country, as it will be held next Tuesday in Ajman, Wednesday in Fujairah, and Thursday in Ras Al Khaimah, concluding next Saturday in Dubai.

The launch of the program constitutes a qualitative national station that is the first of its kind at the state level, and places it among the first specialized programs regionally and strengthens its position globally outside the United States of America, based on the great success achieved by the first operational phase, which witnessed the training of hundreds of surgeons and consultants in various emirates of the country, within an integrated system that included the governmental, private and military sectors.

The program is based on an intensive training structure that extends over a period of four weeks, designed according to four main stages, starting with the foundational stage concerned with emergency concepts and medical triage, followed by an advanced stage for managing surgical operations in disaster environments within limited resources, then a leadership stage concerned with decision-making methodologies and managing operations under pressure, leading to an applied stage that includes advanced simulation and multi-stakeholder field exercises.

The program aims to enhance capabilities and raise operational capacity by preparing an elite group of senior surgeons and consultants, which consolidates the transfer and localization of international best practices, and supports the development of an integrated national model that can be expanded regionally and internationally.

Cardiothoracic surgeon and CEO of the Emirates National “Jahiya” Program, Dr. Adel Al-Shammari Al-Ajmi, said that the program is based on a successful training experience in its first phase, which included an elite group of surgeons from the UAE, Canada, Europe and Australia working in health institutions, including Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City, and Rashid Hospital, in addition to advanced specializations in trauma medicine and surgery within the facilities of SEHA and the Pure Health Group, which contributed to proving the effectiveness of the training model. and enhancing the leadership and clinical capabilities of surgeons in emergency and disaster settings.
