An armed attack on a team bus… and a player was killed!

Ghanaian striker Dominic Frimpong was killed after armed robbers attacked his team bus as they returned from an away match on Sunday, the Ghana Football Association announced Monday.
Berkum Chelsea FC, which competes in the Ghanaian Premier League, said in a statement that “masked men carrying pistols and rifles” opened fire on the team bus, forcing the players to take shelter in the bush.
According to Ghanaian police, the attack occurred on the Ahiriso-Kwame Dumur Sriso road in Nyinahin District of the Ashanti Region.
Police added that Frimpong, 20, suffered gunshot wounds and died in hospital while receiving treatment.
A police statement said: “Another victim, George Owusu Afriyie (52 years old), was robbed of 4,500,000 Ghanaian cedis (408 US dollars).”
The Ghana Football Association described the incident as “tragic” and a “huge loss to Berkum Chelsea FC, as well as to Ghanaian football as a whole.”
He said in a statement, “Dominic was a promising young talent who, with his dedication and passion for the game, embodied the spirit of our league.”
Frimpong joined Berkum Chelsea on loan from Aduana Stars at the beginning of the year.
He played 13 matches and scored two goals with the club, according to local media.
