Meloni considers Trump’s criticism of the Pope “unacceptable”

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said on Monday that US President Donald Trump’s criticism of Pope Leo XIV was “unacceptable.”

Meloni said in a statement, “The Pope is the head of the Catholic Church, and it is right and natural for him to call for peace and condemn all forms of war.”

On Sunday, Trump criticized the Pope after his calls to end wars, saying that he was not a “big fan” of him, and describing him as “very liberal.” In response, the Supreme Pontiff said on Monday that he is not “political” and has no intention of entering into a controversy with Trump.
