Shabab Al-Ahly is champion of the Basketball League for the 16th time in its history

Dubai, April 14 / WAM / The Shabab Al-Ahly team was crowned champion of the men’s basketball league for the 16th time in its history, after defeating Al-Nasr team with a score of 88-77 in the second leg of the competition’s final, which was held today at the Rashid Bin Hamdan Hall in Al-Nasr Club, confirming its superiority after winning the first leg last week 81-78.

Shabab Al-Ahly imposed its advantage over the course of the match for most of its periods, after finishing the first half ahead by 11 points (44-33), and despite Al-Nasr’s attempt to reduce the difference in the second half and reaching a difference of 5 points (77-72), Shabab Al-Ahly returned to widen the gap and decide the match in its favor.

Shabab Al-Ahly raised its tally to two titles this season, after its previous crowning of the Federation Cup, the first championship of the season, which it achieved at the expense of Al-Nasr.

After the match, Abdul Latif Nasser Al Fardan, President of the Emirates Basketball Federation, in the presence of Major General Ismail Abdullah Al Gergawi, Honorary President of the Federation, and a number of officials from the Federation and Shabab Al Ahli Club, crowned the champion team with the league shield and gold medals.

Dr. Majid Sultan, Executive Director of the Sports Sector at Shabab Al-Ahly Club, confirmed that the coronation reflects the state of technical and administrative stability experienced by the club, pointing out that the team succeeded in achieving this achievement, thanks to teamwork and team spirit, which helped it reach this record number of titles.

He explained that stability since the beginning of the season, whether at the level of the technical and administrative staff or the players, contributed to achieving harmony and working in the spirit of one family, which distinguished the team from its competitors, stressing that the club’s ambitions extend to competing strongly in foreign participation next season.

For his part, Serbian Midrag Perisic, Shabab Al-Ahly coach, confirmed that the title was deserved after the team topped the various stages of the season, noting that the competition was strong in light of the presence of distinguished teams such as Al-Nasr, Al-Sharjah and Al-Bataeh.

He explained that the team was affected by pressure in the first leg, but it appeared better in the final match thanks to good preparation and the freedom of the players from these pressures, which was reflected in the performance and resolution of the confrontation.

In turn, international Qais Omar, the focal point player for Shabab Al-Ahly, expressed his happiness at the coronation, stressing that the title came as a result of the great efforts and sacrifices of everyone throughout the season.

He pointed out that the team is looking forward to continuing the competition for the rest of the season’s tournaments, in addition to preparing for the Asian participations, stressing that this achievement represents an incentive to achieve more successes in the next stage.
