Speakers of Gulf parliaments discuss unifying the position against Iranian attacks during the Istanbul meeting

The heads of the legislative councils of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries discussed the importance of building a unified Gulf position, and working to issue resolutions from the General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union condemning the brutal Iranian attacks on the lands of the Arab Gulf states, and the unjustified escalation they represent, in violation of international law and humanitarian norms, a blatant violation of the sovereignty of states and a direct threat to their security and stability.

This came during the coordination meeting of the heads of the legislative councils of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, which was held on the sidelines of the 152nd General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the 217th session of the Governing Council, hosted by the Turkish Grand National Assembly in Istanbul, the Republic of Turkey, under the slogan “Promoting Hope, Ensuring Peace and Achieving Justice for Future Generations.”

Federal National Council Speaker Saqr Ghobash participated in the meeting at the head of the delegation of the UAE Parliamentary Division, in the presence of Federal National Council member Dr. Ali Rashid Al Nuaimi.

Federal National Council Speaker Saqr Ghobash stressed in the meeting the importance of unifying positions and visions among the Gulf parliamentary councils, and enhancing coordination and joint cooperation, in order to consolidate their effective presence in regional and international parliamentary forums, and enable them to deal efficiently with various challenges, especially in light of the current circumstances.

He stressed the need to take a unified position towards the issues on the meeting agendas, whether in the permanent committees, the General Assembly or the Governing Council, in a way that reflects the unity of the Gulf ranks and enhances its influence in international parliamentary decision-making.

Federal National Council Speaker Saqr Ghobash stressed that the brutal Iranian attacks represent clear evidence of attempts to destabilize security and stability in the region and the world, and a grave violation of the rules of international law and the principles of good neighborliness, stressing the necessity of adopting a firm international parliamentary position that rejects these practices and affirms respect for the sovereignty of states.

The meeting discussed the urgent items in the conference’s work, especially with regard to the importance of maintaining the security of air and sea navigation and waterways in the region, ensuring the safety of supply chains and the stability of global energy markets, stressing that the stability of the Arabian Gulf region represents a fundamental pillar for the stability of the global economy.

The heads of the legislative councils also discussed the topics on the agenda of the coordination meeting, and discussed mechanisms and ways to support one of the emergency items submitted for inclusion in the work of the General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, in a way that strengthens the unified Gulf position towards current issues.
