"Basketball Federation": The Gulf Games and Asian qualifiers are our top priorities for the upcoming year
Dubai, April 15 / WAM / The Emirates Basketball Federation announced that the first national team awaits important upcoming events, most notably the Gulf Games in Qatar next May, and the Asian Cup qualifiers hosted by the UAE in August.
Abdul Latif Nasser Al-Fardan, President of the Basketball Federation, confirmed that the strength of competition and club experience witnessed in the men’s basketball league this season will reflect positively on the level of the national team, which is preparing to compete in the upcoming competitions.
Yesterday, the Shabab Al-Ahly team won the league title after defeating Al-Nasr with a score of 88-77 in the second leg of the final round, at the end of a season characterized by a high technical level and strong competition between the clubs.
Al-Fardan pointed out that the coronation of Shabab Al-Ahly was deserved, in light of the distinguished performance it presented throughout the season, explaining that the level at which the Al-Nasr and Shabab Al-Ahly teams appeared in the final reflects the development of UAE basketball, expressing his aspiration for this development to be reflected in the results of the national team in the upcoming participations.
He confirmed that there is a noticeable development in the level of competitions compared to last season, pointing out that the Basketball Association is working to enhance this progress by organizing 4 local competitions at the men’s team level, in addition to continuing cooperation with the clubs that have shown great interest and support for the game.
He added that the Basketball Association is one of the first sports federations that seeks to develop the technical and administrative work system, by organizing a technical conference that brings together coaches, administrators and game supervisors, with the aim of exchanging experiences and formulating a common vision that contributes to drawing a clear road map for the next season.
The president of the federation indicated that this conference will be held periodically, as it was recently held in Khor Fakkan at the level of coaches of the age groups, and that these meetings will later be extended to include coaches of the men’s teams after the end of the season, in a way that supports development plans and raises the level of basketball in the country.
