Freiburg, Braga and an English duo qualified for the semi-finals in the European League

Germany’s Freiburg, England’s Aston Villa, Portugal’s Sporting Braga and England’s Nottingham Forest have qualified for the semi-finals of the European Football League.

Freiburg was the first to qualify for the semi-finals in the tournament, after repeating its superiority over Spain’s Celta Vigo, as the German team achieved a major 3-1 victory over its host Celta Vigo earlier Thursday, in the second leg of the quarter-finals of the continental competition, so that its rise to the semi-finals of the tournament was well deserved, after it had previously won 3-0 over its rival in the first leg that was held between them in Germany last week, to win 6-1 on aggregate.

At Villa Park, Aston Villa repeated its victory over Bologna, after defeating them 4-0, as Ollie Watkins opened the scoring in the 16th minute for the English team, while his teammates Emiliano Buendia and Morgan Rogers added the second and third goals in the 26th and 39th minutes, respectively.

Erzi Konsa concluded the goal festival by scoring the fourth goal for Aston Villa in the 89th minute, as Spanish coach Unai Emery’s team beat its rival 7-1 on aggregate in the first leg, after having previously won 3-1 in the first leg, which was held in Italy last week.

At the City Ground Stadium, Nottingham secured the ticket to the semi-finals, following a 1-0 victory over Portuguese Porto, noting that the first leg, which was held between them in Portugal, ended in a positive 1-1 draw.

The English team owes great credit for achieving this victory to its player, Morgan Gibbs-White, who scored the only goal of the match in the 12th minute, as the hosts took advantage of the numerical deficiency in the ranks of the Portuguese team, which played with ten players early after Polish Jan Bednarek was sent off in the eighth minute.

Sporting Braga continued its adventure in the competition, after overcoming a 0-2 deficit against Real Betis, Spain, to an exciting 4-2 victory at the “La Cartuja” stadium in the Spanish city of Seville.

The first leg, which was held between the two teams in Braga, ended in a positive draw with one goal for each team.

Freiburg will meet Braga in the semi-finals, while Aston Villa will play Nottingham Forest in an all-English match in the semi-finals.
The first round will be held in Braga and Nottingham stadiums on April 30, while the return round will be held in Freiburg and Aston Villa a week later, with the final match being played on May 20 at Besiktas Stadium in Istanbul, Turkey.
