المملكة: Makkah Al-Mukarramah… Al-Qunfudhah celebrates…"Its yellow gold" At the 15th Mango Festival

Under the patronage of Prince Khaled Al-Faisal, Advisor to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Emir of the Makkah Al-Mukarramah Region, activities Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture in the Makkah Al-Mukarramah region, Engineer Walid bin Ibrahim Al-Daghis, said that the festival comes as an extension of a continuous development path for mango cultivation, and strengthening the position of Al-Qunfudah as one of the most prominent production areas in the Kingdom.
While the director of the Ministry’s office in the governorate, Engineer Ahmed bin Abdullah Al-Qarni, indicated that the number of mango farms exceeded four thousand farms, with an annual production exceeding 52 thousand tons, with a harvest season extending for more than three months.
He indicated that there are a large number of mango farmers who own more than half a million mango trees, an indication of the rapid agricultural expansion witnessed by the governorate, pointing out that Al-Qunfudhah is considered one of the highest producing governorates in the Kingdom, compared to the Jazan region, which leads production at the regional level.
Crop disease control
Al-Qarni stressed that the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture continues to support the cultivation of mangoes and tropical fruits through an integrated system that includes technical support. And technical, and organizing workshops and extension programs, and attracting specialized experts from universities and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, in addition to providing agricultural guidance to farmers at the beginning of each season, especially with regard to combating crop diseases, which contributed to improving the quality of production and increasing it.
Mango cultivation in Qunfudhah dates back more than fifty years, as it witnessed continuous development with government support, which made it an economically viable seasonal crop, and contributed to its transformation into an agricultural activity. And a prominent investment in the governorate.
Since the year 1431 AH, Al-Qunfudhah has witnessed the organization of 14 mango festivals, which contributed to supporting farmers, marketing their products, and introducing visitors to this fruit, which has become one of the most prominent features of the governorate’s agricultural identity.
This year’s festival includes exhibitions for farmers and agricultural products, corners for productive families, food trucks, in addition to theatrical activities and a photography corner, in addition to raffles for prizes that include devices. Mobile phones, in an experience that combines marketing, entertainment, and enhancing the local agricultural presence.
