The United Nations is aware of the scheduled meeting between Lebanon and Israel in Washington, and stresses the importance of diplomacy

In the daily press conference, Dujarric said: “We welcome any steps that will end the hostilities and suffering on both sides of the Blue Line. As we have stated many times before, there is no military solution to this conflict; diplomacy remains the only sustainable way forward.”.
He stressed that the United Nations remains ready to support these efforts, calling for full implementation Security Council Resolution No. 1701In an effort to achieve a permanent ceasefire and reach a long-term solution to this conflict.
Huge humanitarian needs
On the humanitarian level, the United Nations spokesman quoted colleagues working in the humanitarian field that Lebanon is still facing enormous humanitarian needs, as hundreds of thousands of people are still displaced inside Lebanon under inadequate shelters and limited access to basic services.
Dujarric reported that within the first 48 hours after the ceasefire took effect, thousands of people left shelters – only temporarily – to assess whether they could actually return to their homes. He added that to date, there are more than 117,000 displaced people inside Lebanon, distributed among 631 collective shelters.
He went on to say: “Behind these numbers stand families still struggling to meet their most basic needs, which confirms the extent of the urgent humanitarian needs that the country is going through.”.
Dujarric explained that since March 2, the United Nations and its partners working in the fields of water and sanitation have distributed more than 150,000 blankets and 115,000 mattresses, as well as thousands of personal hygiene bags and menstrual supplies bags. More than 3.5 million liters of bottled drinking water were also delivered to the affected residents.
