Abu Dhabi Environment announces the start of the camel grazing season in the emirate for the year 2026, starting today.

Under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in the Al Dhafra Region, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi, the Authority announced the start of the camel grazing season in the emirate for the year 2026 on an exceptional basis, starting from April 22 until October 15, 2026, within the framework of implementing Law No. (11) of 2020 regulating grazing in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
The Authority is implementing this law, which aims to regulate traditional grazing practices in a way that contributes to the protection of natural pastures through coordination with the concerned authorities, and ensuring the use of natural resources in accordance with the best standards of environmental sustainability, in a way that meets the needs of the local community, and preserves camel grazing as one of the traditional practices inherited in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi within a balanced environmental framework.
To facilitate procedures, the Authority allows those who meet the conditions to apply for a grazing license via the “Tamm” platform immediately, as the new license fee is 250 dirhams, and the license renewal fee is 150 dirhams.
Based on the executive regulations of the aforementioned law, to obtain a grazing license for camels, the applicant must be a citizen of the UAE. It is also required that there be a companion for the camels who is at least 18 years old, and that the applicant must have a valid livestock inventory certificate approved by the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority.
Those holding a license are obligated to graze in open wild areas, and to stay away from natural reserves, forests, residential and private areas, military and petroleum installations, roads and prohibited places at a distance of not less than 2 km, and not to leave camels to graze without an escort, and to adhere to the period specified for grazing in the license.
Licensed camel breeders and owners must not transfer the grazing license to another person, and adhere to a number of environmental rules to preserve pastures, including not introducing strange plants or animals or any harmful materials into the grazing areas, refraining from uprooting, burning, cutting, collecting or damaging plants in any way, refraining from approaching water wells, or using bicycles, cars, or any vehicles that may harm the vegetation cover, and not leaving any waste or tools in those areas, in a way that ensures the protection and sustainability of the Abu Dhabi environment and the preservation of it. Its biological diversity.
The Authority appreciates the role of camel owners and breeders, their cooperation, and their keenness to adhere to environmental requirements while practicing camel herding, which contributes to achieving the sustainability of vegetation in natural pastures, and enhancing the implementation of the executive aspect of the law regulating grazing in the emirate.
