"Abu Dhabi Agriculture" Reviews initiatives to enhance food security and sustainability in" UAE Agricultural Conference"

Al Ain, April 23 / WAM / The Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority continues its commitment to enhancing agricultural sustainability and food security through active participation in the UAE Agricultural Conference and Exhibition, where it reviews a package of strategic initiatives, projects and technical innovations that aim to develop the agricultural and livestock sector in the emirate.
Ali Ahmed Al Obaidli, Head of the Authority’s Awareness and Community Participation Department, said in a statement to the Emirates News Agency (WAM) that the participation aims to highlight the Authority’s most important vital projects, most notably the “Abu Dhabi Honey Project,” in addition to specific agricultural projects such as the “Cassava” plant and the “Mushroom” plant, which represent an important addition to the crop diversity in the country.
He added that the authority’s pavilion allocated an introductory platform for the “Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Award for Agricultural Excellence” in its fifth session, with the aim of motivating farmers, livestock breeders, and beekeepers to participate and compete to adopt the best international practices.
He pointed out that the Authority launched this year, in cooperation with the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, a livestock competition that includes public auctions and competitions to choose the “best weights” and “best breeds,” in order to support breeders and enhance the quality of local production.
He invited the public and investors to visit the authority’s platform to see the latest innovations in the field of “smart agriculture,” which rely on advanced technical solutions to reduce resource consumption and raise production efficiency.
The pavilion displays live models of beekeeping and queen insemination, in addition to various national products of luxurious Emirati honey, such as Sidr, Samar, and Ghaf honey, which have won awards and certificates of appreciation for their high quality.
It is noteworthy that the cassava project aims to introduce and develop cassava cultivation as one of the important and strategic food crops, given its high nutritional value as a rich source of starch, and its role in supporting the diversification of food sources. The project focuses on evaluating the ability of cassava to adapt to local environmental conditions, especially in areas with marginal soil and limited water resources, and is characterized by its ability to produce in fewer conditions compared to traditional crops.
The project seeks to explore its multiple uses in the food industry, including the production of flour and gluten-free products, in addition to its use in feed, which enhances its economic value.
The project contributes to supporting food security in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi by introducing a flexible and sustainable crop, which contributes to reducing dependence on imports and enhancing the efficiency of agricultural production.
The mushroom project aims to produce mushrooms using agricultural waste by developing a sustainable agricultural model that transforms crop residues and organic materials into an effective medium for producing oyster mushrooms. The model was developed and simplified to be applicable to farmers with easy methods and low costs without the need for complex equipment, while ensuring stable productivity and quality.
The project focuses on exploiting local resources and reducing operational costs compared to traditional settings, in addition to transferring knowledge through training courses.
The project contributes to supporting food security in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi by producing food of high nutritional value in innovative ways that are appropriate for the desert environment and are consistent with the emirate’s trends towards sustainable agriculture.
