Freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz is non-negotiable

European Union leaders stressed that freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz is non-negotiable, during their meeting for the second day in a row in Cyprus. In her statements on the sidelines of the meeting, which discussed the economic and security repercussions of developments in the Middle East, Kaya Callas, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, called for strengthening the European military presence in the region to ensure the security of sea lanes.

It warned that holding talks that focus solely on the nuclear file without the presence of nuclear experts at the negotiating table will result in a new nuclear agreement with Iran, which may be less strong than the 2015 agreement, which was concluded between Iran and the United States, Britain, France, Russia, China, and Germany, in addition to the European Union, and stipulated restricting the Iranian nuclear program.
