The Sultanate of Oman and Britain stress the necessity of adhering to international freedom of navigation rules

The Sultanate of Oman and the United Kingdom stressed the importance of enhancing cooperation and joint coordination in the security and maritime fields, and exchanging experiences in a way that supports efforts aimed at maintaining security and stability in the region, and enhances commitment to international law and the rules of freedom of navigation.

This came during a meeting with the Omani Foreign Minister, Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, and the Political Director-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Development in the United Kingdom, Lord Edward Llewellyn, according to the Omani News Agency, today, Tuesday.

During the meeting, a number of topics of common interest were discussed, most notably the developments in the situation in the region and their repercussions, as the two sides exchanged views on ways to enhance calm, reduce escalation, and push towards sustainable political and diplomatic solutions.

The Lord listened to the views of the Omani Foreign Minister on the importance of “preserving the security and safety of the sea lanes and strategic straits, especially the Strait of Hormuz, and the necessity of ensuring the smooth flow of international shipping traffic, in a way that contributes to protecting global supply chains and enhancing economic stability.”
