Emirates Team cyclist Pogačar leads the first stage and the general standings of the Tour de Romandie
Geneva, April 30 / WAM / Slovenian Tade Pogačar, rider of the Emirates Team –
Pogacar’s victory came only 24 hours after the preliminary stage, where he imposed his control over the course of the race, achieving his first victory in the road stages this season, and his first victory in the stage races during the year 2026, thus raising his tally to five victories since the beginning of the season.
The stage witnessed a distinguished team performance from the Emirates team, which controlled the race rhythm from the start, and succeeded in reducing the gap with the early escape group.
In the main climb of the stage, which extended for a distance of 8.9 km, his teammate Pavel Sivakov made a strong start that paved the way for Pogacar’s attack about 39 km before the finish line in Martini.
Pogacar was able to form an advanced group that included Lenny Martinez, Florian Leibovitz, and Jürgen Nordhagen, as the quartet maintained their lead until the final kilometers.
As the decisive meters entered, Pogačar succeeded in deciding the sprint in his favour, outperforming his rivals to secure a well-deserved first stage win.
In a statement after the end of the race, Pogačar praised the performance of his teammates and the front group, stressing that teamwork was a decisive element in achieving victory, pointing out that the team will seek to defend the top spot in the overall standings during the coming stages, despite the difficulty of the competition.
