The US Army employs artificial intelligence to detect Iranian mines

The US Navy has strengthened its capabilities to detect sea mines through a contract with the artificial intelligence company Domino Data Lab, as part of confronting Iran’s threats in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the most important shipping lanes in the world.
The value of the contract is approaching $100 million, and it aims to speed up mine detection operations using machine learning programs capable of identifying new types within days.
US President Donald Trump said that the Navy is working to remove mines from the Strait, warning that its closure may threaten the global economy, in light of the repercussions of the recent war between Washington and Tehran.
According to a company official, the new technology allows systems to be quickly deployed in conflict areas, shifting the task of detecting mines from traditional ships to systems supported by artificial intelligence.
Reuters quoted the source as saying that the program integrates data from several sensors, which allows improving detection accuracy and reducing reliance on the human element.
