The Sharjah Arab Creativity Award sets October 31 as the deadline for receiving entries


Sharjah, 5 May / WAM / The General Secretariat of the Sharjah Award for Arab Creativity (first edition), organized by the Sharjah Department of Culture, has set next October 31 as the deadline for receiving entries in its thirtieth session dedicated to manuscripts prepared for the first publication by male and female writers from the Emirates and various parts of the Arab world.
The award comes based on the directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, and within the framework of His Highness’s continuing efforts to support talented male and female writers in the award’s literary fields, which include: short stories, poetry, novels, theater, children’s literature, and criticism.
Muhammad Ibrahim Al Qaseer, Director of the Cultural Affairs Department at the Department of Culture in Sharjah, Secretary-General of the Award, said: The Award embodies the deep interest of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah in nurturing creativity and His Highness’s continued keenness to support talented male and female writers, allowing them to highlight their first experiences and engage in the Arab cultural scene.
He stressed that the award, since its establishment, has contributed to supplying the Arab cultural scene with “522” male and female winners during the previous editions, who have consolidated their presence, left their literary mark, and today have become an active part of its creative movement.
He pointed out that the award receives entries from all Arab countries, pointing out that it has witnessed a noticeable expansion in its geographical scope as it now attracts entries from countries around the world, stressing that previous sessions recorded a remarkable presence of entries from countries such as Gambia, Mali, Senegal, Pakistan, and Canada, in an indication of the expansion of its international scope.
He explained that the number of entries in each session is more than 500, which reflects the volume of demand for it, pointing out that the continuation of the award over the decades reflects Sharjah’s firm commitment to its enlightening cultural project and its role in embracing and nurturing literary talents in a way that contributes to consolidating the presence of Arab creativity at the Arab and international levels.
The General Secretariat approved the conditions for participation, which allow applications for both genders from within the country and from all Arab countries, provided that the manuscript must be submitted for publication for the first time in a book and has not previously been printed or won in a similar competition and that it has not been submitted for a university degree or previously published.
