Russia and Ukraine declare separate truces

Ukraine announced a ceasefire starting today, two days before a truce announced by Moscow took effect, marking the anniversary of the end of World War II, warning that it would respond to any Russian attack.
While the Russian army threatened to launch a “major missile strike” on Kiev in the event of a violation of the ceasefire announced on May 8 and 9, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky responded the evening before yesterday by announcing the entry into force of the ceasefire from the night of May 6.
Zelensky warned that Ukraine would “reciprocate” with Russia “from that moment on,” and said: “It is time for Russian leaders to take concrete steps to end their war.”
