"Emirates Medical Day".. Qualitative advances in robotic surgeries and advanced treatments

Abu Dhabi, 8th May / WAM / Tomorrow, the UAE will celebrate “Emirates Medical Day”, which falls on the 9th of May of each year, as an embodiment of a forward-looking national vision that has made human health a focus of development, and has established the country’s position as a global model in building a smart and sustainable health system based on innovation, advanced technologies, and human-centered care.

The health sector in Abu Dhabi continues to consolidate its qualitative transformation towards future medicine, by expanding the use of artificial intelligence, robotic surgeries, and advanced therapeutic technologies, which enhances the accuracy of diagnosis, the efficiency of medical interventions, and the quality of therapeutic outcomes, and supports the emirate’s leadership as a global center for future health care.

The most prominent treatments and technologies used during the year 2026 included precise robotic surgeries for tumors, lungs and urinary tracts, early diagnosis using artificial intelligence and medical image analysis, in addition to personalized medicine based on genomics and vital data, systems for predicting health complications and chronic diseases, as well as the development of smart medical robots and brain-computer linking technologies as part of future research projects that reshape the features of modern medicine.

Abu Dhabi hospitals have achieved qualitative leaps in employing artificial intelligence, robotic surgeries, and advanced treatments, by promoting precise robotic surgeries, innovative treatments for tumors and urinary tract, and minimally invasive surgery techniques, in addition to diagnostic and treatment services supported by smart technologies.

Advanced surgical applications have also emerged in the maternal and fetal specialties, through performing precise operations inside the womb using advanced robotic techniques to treat fetal spina bifida, in a medical achievement that is considered one of the rare and advanced operations in the world, and reflects the level of development reached by the health system in the country.

The sector witnessed the implementation of complex surgical operations using advanced robotic arms that allow doctors to accurately access treatment sites and reduce complications and recovery periods, in addition to recording the first remote kidney and ureter removal surgery between the UAE and Pakistan using a robot, and the first remote robotic treatment for prostate cancer, as well as the use of a robot in 3D electroencephalography to treat epilepsy.

Health institutions have turned to integrating artificial intelligence, predictive models, and digital twins for patients, with the aim of improving treatment outcomes and raising the efficiency of future health care, as part of an accelerating trend towards precision medicine that relies on advanced data and analytics.

Dr. Salama Mohammed Al Hosani, Executive Medical Director at SEHA Clinics, told the Emirates News Agency, WAM, that SEHA Clinics continues its commitment to achieving clinical excellence, accelerating the pace of digital transformation, and providing integrated health care that achieves the best health outcomes for all, supporting the UAE’s ambition to consolidate its global leadership in the advanced and accessible health care sector.

For his part, Dr. Muhammad Fatyan, Medical Director of Burjeel Holding Group, confirmed to WAM that Burjeel Holding continues to develop an integrated health model launched from the Emirates to serve the region and the world, by investing in advanced medical infrastructure, modern technology, scientific research, medical education, and attracting global talent.

He pointed to the continued expansion of precision medicine programs and advanced treatments, and the enhancement of oncology, neuroscience, cardiology, and subspecialty surgeries and rehabilitation services, in parallel with the growing investments in digital health and artificial intelligence, and supporting self-sufficiency and national health capabilities through developing advanced pharmaceutical manufacturing and enhancing local production of specialized medicines and treatments, in addition to expanding biotechnology, gene therapy, and stem cell projects, thus consolidating the concept of personalized medicine and innovative solutions for genetic and rare diseases.

For his part, Dr. Abdul Qader Al-Musabi, Consultant in Gastroenterology and Hepatology and Chief Medical Officer at Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City, said that the city continues to consolidate its position on the map of advanced health care, by achieving a series of qualitative achievements, especially in the field of specialized robotic surgeries, which has strengthened its role in providing medical care for complex and critical cases in accordance with the highest international medical standards.
