المملكة: A qualitative medical success restores hope to a patient who suffered for years from a non-healing forearm fracture

The medical team at the Bonesand the spine at King Saud Medical City achieved a qualitative medical success in ending the suffering of a patient that continued for years, following the non-healing of a complex fracture in the forearm bone, despite her having undergone eight previous surgeries in repeated attempts at treatment.

The medical team was led by Dr. Bandar Sahli, a surgical consultant Orthopedics and upper limb surgery, where he dealt with a case considered one of the most complex surgical cases, as a result of a bone loss estimated at about 8 centimeters at the site of the fracture, which required highly specialized intervention to rebuild the bone and restore its function.

Compensation for bone loss

The team performed an advanced operation that included a bone transplant using part of the patient’s fibula bone, with the aim of compensating for bone loss and stimulating the healing of the fracture, in addition to stabilizing the bone with a plate and screws according to the latest surgical practices.

The operation – praise be to God – was crowned with success, which contributed to ending the patient’s suffering, stabilizing the fracture site, and enhancing the chances of restoring the functions of the affected limb and improving her quality of life after a long treatment journey.
