"Samsung" Electronics advances the opening date of the first chip factory in… "Young In" To 2029

SEOUL, July 12, 2018 (WAM) – Industry sources reported on Sunday that Samsung Electronics is heading to start operating the first semiconductor manufacturing plant within the Yongin chip complex in 2029, that is, one to two years earlier than scheduled.
This acceleration of the schedule comes as the government works to accelerate the development of the Yongin National Industrial Park, a strategic project set to be the company’s next-generation semiconductor manufacturing hub.
Samsung currently plans to begin operation in 2029 in the first of 6 semiconductor factories that will be built in the Yongin Industrial Complex, located south of Seoul.
An industry official said that the early start-up of the first factory will enable Samsung to respond more quickly to the rapidly increasing global demand for artificial intelligence chips.
The chip manufacturer announced last month that, as part of its mega project investment plan, it plans to invest 2030 trillion won (1.35 trillion US dollars) in the semiconductor complexes in Pyeongtaek and Yongin, along with 400 trillion won to build two new chip factories in Gwangju, 270 kilometers south of Seoul.
