Establishing a project to produce electric cars and battery cells in the Sultanate of Oman

MUSCAT, May 10 / WAM / The Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones of Oman announced the establishment of a project to produce electric cars and battery cells in the Special Economic Zone in the city of Duqm in cooperation with the Korean company “EL B&T” for electric vehicle technologies, at an investment cost amounting to 96.2 million Omani riyals, equivalent to “250 million US dollars.”

The Oman News Agency reported that the project will be implemented in two phases, with a production capacity of up to 60,000 cars annually and 1.6 million battery cells upon completion of the second phase.

In its first phase, the project focuses on meeting the demand in the local market in the Sultanate of Oman, with a view to gradually expanding towards the markets of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, the Middle East and North Africa.
