المملكة: Developing the Prince Mohammed bin Salman axis… improving the visual landscape to serve the guests of God

Continue Secretariat of the Holy Capital Implementing the work of the Mecca Corridors on Prince Mohammed bin Salman Road (Makkah Al-Mukarramah – Jeddah Expressway), as part of its development path to improve the entrances to Makkah al-Mukarramahand upgrading the visual and urban landscape, supporting urban identity and raising the level of aesthetics, in a way that reflects the status of the holy capital and keeps pace with quality of life goals, and contributes to improving the Hajj experience and serving the guests of God during the season.

The project aims to raise the level of aesthetics of the western entrance to Makkah al-Mukarramah, as one of the most important vital axes, by implementing humanization, beautification and development works, and enhancing visual elements using natural resources and vegetation, in addition to applying best practices in landscaping and improving the environment. The surrounding area, which creates an integrated urban environment that reflects the urban identity of the road, supports the flow of movement and facilitates the movement of the pilgrims.

The axis extends 16 kilometers, starting from Zamzam Square all the way to its intersection with Al-Shumaisi Bridge, and is linked to a number of main roads, most notably the third and fourth ring roads. It also serves a wide range of residential, commercial, hotel and service uses, and is considered an active and vibrant commercial hub. It constitutes one of the main paths leading to Mecca during the Hajj season.

Requirements of the Hajj season

Within the framework of afforestation and rehabilitation work, the secretariat carried out a number of qualitative works and improvements, which included planting 4,900 trees of the types of acacia, palm tree, and coastal hibiscus, and planting more than 46,450 halfa and bougainvillea shrubs. More than 860 Washingtonian palm trees.

The project was also implemented through three integrated operational phases, where the completion rate in the first phase (from the Roundabout Square to the Third Ring Road) reached 100%, as well as the second phase (from the Third Ring Road to the Fourth Ring Road) by 100%, while the third phase (from the Fourth Ring Road to Prince Nayef Street) reached 95%, reflecting advanced readiness to support the requirements of the Hajj season.

Irrigation and cleaning works

The implemented works included irrigation and cleaning works, landscaping and planting, and ongoing maintenance, in addition to site coordination and implementation of field treatments. In a way that enhances operating efficiency, improves the quality of the urban landscape along the axis, contributes to raising the level of general aesthetics and enhancing urban identity, and supports the provision of integrated services to the pilgrims.

The secretariat confirmed that these works come within an integrated system concerned with humanizing roads, improving the visual landscape, developing the entrances to Mecca, supporting urban identity and raising the level of aesthetics, in order to achieve a higher quality urban environment, elevate the Hajj experience, and enhance the level of service provided to the pilgrims during Season.
