"Emirates Fatwa" It is announced that the sighting of the crescent of the month of Dhu al-Hijjah has been confirmed, and Wednesday, May 27 is the first day of Eid al-Adha

Abu Dhabi, May 17, 2026 AD – The Emirates Shari’a Fatwa Council announced that the sighting of the crescent of the month of Dhu al-Hijjah for the year 1447 AH was confirmed this evening, Sunday, 29 Dhu al-Qi’dah 1447 AH, corresponding to May 17, 2026 AD, after reviewing the results of the forecasts and monitoring reports received from specialists, experts, and “Al-Shuwaifa” throughout the country, through the system of accredited observatories supervised by institutions and centers specialized in space sciences and astronomy. This is in cooperation with “Shawaf Al Khatam” affiliated with the International Astronomy Centre, “Shawaf Dubai” in cooperation with the Department of Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities in Dubai, and “Shawaf Sharjah” in cooperation with the Sharjah Space and Astronomy Complex.
The Council explained that the work of investigating the crescent moon was carried out according to an integrated national system that is based on Sharia controls and takes advantage of the latest means and modern techniques in astronomical observation, which enhances the accuracy of investigation procedures and the reliability of their results, and embodies the state’s methodology in employing science and modern technologies, and benefiting from them in the service of humanity.
Based on the proof of the legitimate sighting of the crescent; The Council announced that tomorrow, Monday, May 18, 2026 AD, is the first day of the month of Dhul-Hijjah for the year 1447 AH, and that Wednesday, May 27, 2026 AD, is the first day of Eid Al-Adha in the United Arab Emirates.
On this occasion, the Emirates Council for Sharia Fatwa extended its highest congratulations and blessings to the shrine of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, may God protect him, and to his brother His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, may God protect him, and to their brothers Their Highnesses the members of the Supreme Council of the Union and Rulers of the Emirates, and to their Highnesses the Crown Princes and Deputy Rulers, and to the people of the United Arab Emirates and those residing on its land. Kindness, asking God to return this blessed occasion to everyone with goodness, prosperity and blessings.
The Council also directed prayers to God Almighty to make the month of Dhul-Hijjah and the days of Eid Al-Adha a good and blessed occasion for the UAE, its leadership and its people, and to perpetuate the blessing of security, stability, development and prosperity to the nation, and to accept from the pilgrims their Hajj, and the good deeds and obedience of them.
