"Edge" and"Safran" The French cooperate in the aviation and defense sectors

Paris, June 15, 2017 – EDGE, the Emirati group specialized in advanced technology and defense, announced today the signing of a strategic cooperation agreement with Safran, the leading French company in the fields of aerospace and defense, during the Eurosatory 2026 exhibition.

The agreement establishes a regulatory framework for expanding and deepening cooperation between the two sides and opening broader areas for joint work across the business portfolios of the two groups.

The Edge Group and Safran are currently cooperating in several programs in the fields of defense electronics, smart weapons and other vital sectors, based on Safran’s presence in the UAE for more than 3 decades.

The strategic cooperation agreement contributes to strengthening this partnership, by expanding its scope to include a larger set of equipment, capabilities and expertise that the two groups can develop and work on jointly.

The agreement also comes in response to the profound transformations taking place in the field of modern warfare, including the growing role of unmanned systems and electronic warfare and the growing need for more flexible and independent defense capabilities.

Hamad Al Marar, Managing Director and CEO of EDGE Group, said: Safran and EDGE have succeeded in building a true partnership based on shared values, integrated capabilities, and a firm confidence that the best defense solutions are developed through cooperation. The signing of this agreement in Paris, during the week in which EDGE Europe begins its work, reflects the extent to which this relationship has reached and the great ambition we have to continue developing it.

For his part, Olivier Andreas, CEO of Safran, said: Safran’s established presence in the UAE forms a solid foundation for our partnership with EDGE. Through this strategic cooperation agreement, we confirm our commitment to building a common vision focused on developing advanced technology and innovative solutions. By combining our integrated capabilities and expertise, Safran and EDGE seek to accelerate the development of high-value capabilities capable of meeting current and future challenges in the aviation and defense sectors.
