Dubai, May 19 / WAM / The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation concluded its participation in the current session of the Turin International Book Fair 2026, one of the most prominent intellectual events in Europe, amid a busy presence of events that attracted wide interest in academic and literary circles, among Italian publishers and visitors to the exhibition, which contributed to strengthening the Arab presence internationally.
The Foundation’s pavilion witnessed a remarkable interaction from attendees and those interested in Arab knowledge affairs, as activities varied between dialogue sessions, intellectual seminars, presentation of the Foundation’s publications, and knowledge launches that discussed the reality of Arabic literature and its presence in the European knowledge scene, in addition to ways to enhance translation and openness to the global reader.
His Excellency Jamal Bin Huwaireb, Executive Director of the Foundation, confirmed that the remarkable interaction of academic circles and the Italian public with the Foundation’s publications reflects the growing Arab intellectual presence on the international scene and embodies the role of knowledge as a solid bridge for dialogue between cultures and civilizations.
He added: The real interest we witnessed in Turin in our publications and knowledge projects confirms that Arab culture is an active partner in the global civilizational dialogue. This participation was not limited to introducing our intellectual production, but rather contributed to building strategic relationships with an elite group of Italian publishers and academics, thus enhancing knowledge rapprochement between peoples and consecrating knowledge as a common human heritage.
The launch of the Italian version of the encyclopedia “Islamic Civilization in Sicily” was the most prominent stage of this participation, as the ceremony attracted wide interest from the exhibition’s audience and contributed to deepening the dialogue about the common cultural heritage between the Arab world and Europe.
On the sidelines of the launch, the Dar Al-Hekma Center in Turin hosted a specialized academic symposium that dealt with the encyclopedia and its cultural dimensions, in which Dr. Luca Patrisi from the University of Turin, Dr. Wael Farouk, Director of the Arab Cultural Institute at the Catholic University of Milan, and Professor Dr. Joseph Mandala from the University of Milan participated.
Within the “Knowledge Break” program, the Foundation organized a session entitled “Arabic Literature in the Context of Internationalism: How does a text enter an international catalog?” During which editor Fabio Mozzi Falcone spoke, he presented a rich vision on the criteria for selecting the Arabic text to reach the global reader, balancing the depth of the Arab literary heritage and its transformations in the contemporary scene, in addition to a symposium on the institution’s publication of “The Book of Five,” moderated by Dr. Hussein Mahmoud in a dialogue with the work’s translator, Muhammad Al-Tadawi, who discussed the process of this work from its inception to its translation and the intellectual and literary dimensions it entails.
The activities continued with two integrated sessions moderated by Giacomo Alberti Longhi, the first of which addressed the topic: “How does an Italian publisher choose the Arabic voice?” Publisher Grazia del Oro spoke about the new standards that now govern publishing decisions in light of the current transformations in the global knowledge landscape.
The second session was entitled “The Arab Writer in Italian Eyes,” in which the Italian journalist Jacopo Mucci, who specializes in Italian and Arab affairs, spoke, presenting his journalistic and humanitarian reading of the image of the Arab writer in the Italian conscience and the extent of the presence and influence that Arabic literature has achieved in the Italian intellectual space in recent years.
