Targeting peaceful nuclear facilities is a “dangerous escalation”

The Emirati delegate to the United Nations, Mohammed Abu Shehab, on Tuesday condemned the terrorist attacks that targeted the vicinity of the Barakah nuclear plant.

Abu Shehab said in an emergency session of the UN Security Council regarding developments in the Middle East that targeting peaceful nuclear facilities is “disgraceful.”

He considered that “the attack on the vicinity of the Barakah nuclear plant constitutes a dangerous escalation,” stressing that the Barakah nuclear plant “enjoys the highest levels of safety and security.”

He added: “We reserve the right to respond to any threat to our sovereignty,” noting that “the targeting of the vicinity of the Barakah nuclear plant came from Iraqi territory.”

The Emirati delegate concluded by saying that “protecting international nuclear facilities is a shared international responsibility.”
