Amir Al-Masry and Nelly Karim… in a story that extends from 1967 to the “eighties”

The makers of the film “Stories” revealed the official announcement of the anticipated work, in preparation for its release in Egyptian theaters next June 17, before it begins showing in various Arab countries, starting next June 18, in a step that raised a wide state of anticipation among the audience and critics, especially with the film’s different visual and temporal character, re-evoking an era full of political, emotional, and social transformations.

The film brings together, for the first time in this form, Amir Al-Masry and Nelly Karim in a dramatic work, which seems to be betting on deep human feelings and stories that grow in the midst of major crises, as the teaser reveals a world full of details and internal conflicts, on a journey that extends from 1967, until the late eighties of the last century.

From the first moments of the advertisement, the features of the cinematic vision that the film seeks to present become clear, as the hero “Ahmed,” the aspiring pianist, appears as he tries to make his way amid a volatile reality imposed by wars and social and political transformations. While his artistic dreams confront complex family relationships, and a love story that arises through correspondence with an Austrian girl, these letters turn into a humanitarian window that gives him hope and escape from the harshness of reality.

It seems that the film is not content with telling a traditional romantic story, but rather seeks to present a broader picture of a generation that lived through major setbacks and severe changes, a generation that tries to cling to art, love, and dreams in the face of losses and transformations. The work also bets on the element of time. As a hidden hero within the events, where characters, places, and feelings change with the change of years, in a dramatic structure that carries a contemplative and humane character.

The teaser gave the audience striking visual glimpses, reflecting clear attention to the details of each time period, whether through costumes, decorations, music, or the nature of photography, which reinforced the impression that the film seeks to provide an integrated cinematic experience, evoking the spirit of those decades with all the dreams, tensions, and political and cultural transformations they brought about.

The film’s filming between Cairo and Vienna also attracted attention, in a clear reflection of the cross-border character of the story, especially with the presence of a dramatic line linked to the emotional correspondence between the East and Europe, which gives the film a human and cultural dimension, beyond the traditional local framework.

The work bears the signature of director and author Abu Bakr Shawqi, who is known for presenting works that tend to the human feeling and calm visual construction, which raises the ceiling of expectations about the film, especially since the advertisement showed a clear tendency towards emotional drama with a contemplative rhythm, far from the usual noise in many commercial productions.

The film includes an elite group of stars, in addition to Amir Al-Masry and Nelly Karim, including: Karim Kassem, Ahmed Kamal, Sabry Fawaz, Sherif El-Desouki, and Amr Abed, along with another group of artists, who participate in drawing the features of the story that extends over many years.

The film is also characterized by a huge production nature through Arab-European cooperation, with the participation of a large number of production companies, film institutions, and support funds, which reflects the size of the bet on the project. As a work capable of attending international festivals, Arab and international markets.
