"Minister of Economy": The UAE has built an economy capable of performing in various circumstances

ABU DHABI, 21st May / WAM / His Excellency Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri, Minister of Economy and Tourism, stressed that the UAE continues to consolidate an economic model based on openness, continuity and the ability to adapt to global changes, noting that the national economy has proven its ability to maintain its competitiveness and stability despite geopolitical challenges and regional fluctuations.
His Excellency said in a speech during the Economy Middle East Summit in Abu Dhabi that the UAE did not build its economy for conditions of prosperity only, but to be able to perform in various circumstances.
His Excellency pointed out that in a world characterized by fragmentation and uncertainty, preference will be given to economies that are open, reliable and able to continue to operate efficiently.
He said that the region is going through an exceptional phase that has witnessed one of the most dangerous conflicts in decades, explaining that the first test in such circumstances is security, the second is continuity, and the third is trust.
He added that the basic economic message that the UAE emphasizes is that it is an open country, operates efficiently, and enjoys a predictable economic environment.
His Excellency explained that the average annual growth of the country’s gross domestic product between 2021 and 2025 was about 5%, while non-oil growth recorded about 6.2%.
He pointed out that non-oil activities reached more than 77% of the gross domestic product, while the country’s non-oil foreign trade exceeded 3.8 trillion dirhams during 2025, and non-oil exports reached 813 billion dirhams, which are two record levels.
His Excellency pointed out that these indicators confirm that economic diversification in the country is no longer just an ambition, but has become clear in the structure of the national economy.
He stressed that economic flexibility is not a slogan, but rather the result of policies, noting that the state’s response focused on protecting business continuity and maintaining the flow of trade, supply chains, and basic services with minimal disruption.
He said that the concept of flexibility is not limited to building strategic stocks only, but rather includes diversifying trade routes, speeding up customs procedures, multiple ports and airports, building reliable supplier networks, and enhancing institutional and digital coordination.
He added that our focus during the next phase is to enhance growth and drive the main engines of the economy at a greater pace, attract talent and competencies, in addition to developing supply chains.
His Excellency Abdullah bin Touq stressed that the UAE’s strength is based not only on its infrastructure, but also on the strength of its financial system, explaining that the country’s foreign assets exceed one trillion dollars, while the UAE’s sovereign funds manage more than two trillion dollars in assets.
