Fujairah Environment Authority teams discover new turtle nesting sites and release seven endangered species

The field teams of the Department of Biodiversity and Marine Reserves at the Fujairah Environment Authority monitored three sea turtle nesting sites on the coast of the Emirate of Fujairah near Al-Faqit Reserve in the city of Dibba Al-Fujairah on the beach of the Royal Beach Hotel and Resort, during marine and coastal surveys carried out by the field teams during the nesting season in the period from March to June of each year.
The specialized teams immediately cordoned off the nesting sites and secured them in cooperation with the hotel management. The authority supervised the nesting sites during the season since they were monitored through close periodic monitoring operations, which resulted in the successful hatching in the first site of 7 endangered Hawksbill turtles, which were then re-released from the same nesting site after examining their vital indicators and health status in cooperation with the Fujairah Research Center, and their companion during the launch flight 7 Another variety of turtles is the green turtle, Chelonia mydas.
This came after rescue operations for five sea turtles were carried out by the Fujairah Energy Company F3, in coordination with the Fujairah Environment Authority and the Fujairah Research Center, after the turtles got stuck in the company’s tanks, in addition to two green turtles, which were also rehabilitated by the Dubai Turtle Rehabilitation Project, affiliated with the Jumeirah Group, after rescue operations carried out by the Fujairah Environment Authority and the Fujairah Research Center, where motion sensors were installed on some of the targeted turtles to monitor and track them. Their movement and vital indicators were collected by the Environment Agency and the Research Center to monitor their paths and favorite nesting places according to scientific and research studies that were analyzed and collected using the latest technical systems supported by artificial intelligence to ensure their health and physical safety.
This launch, which is the second this year during the nesting season only from the Emirate of Fujairah, confirms the health of the marine ecosystems in Fujairah, and strengthens the Fujairah Environment Authority’s system in managing terrestrial and marine natural reserves, protecting threatened species, stabilizing their growing march towards restoring habitats, and supporting efforts to preserve the marine environment, within an integrated system and strategic plans for the marine environment, which begins with rehabilitating sites for sea turtles by cultivating coral reefs in cooperation with international organizations and with the participation of volunteers from the local community in order to achieve environmental balance and protection. Unique sea creatures.
