The United Nations intervenes to contain the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo


The United Nations has confirmed that the peacekeeping mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo continues to support the government’s efforts to contain the rapid spread of , amid the deteriorating humanitarian situation and continuing security challenges.

United Nations spokesman Stephane Dujarric said: Ituri province represents the main focus of the outbreak Ebola outbreak

He explained that the mission transported more than 4,600 kilograms of medical supplies from Nairobi to the Democratic Republic of the Congo, in addition to allocating planes and vehicles to support medical evacuations and contact tracing.

Dujarric pointed to increasing fears of the spread of the virus to North Kivu Province, after confirmation Infections were recorded in the cities of Goma, Butembo and Katwa, stressing that health partners are strengthening field monitoring and response systems.
