Secretary of the Gulf Cooperation Council: The stability of the Gulf region is an essential pillar for the stability of the global economy and the security of international navigation

Prague, May 23 / WAM / His Excellency Jassim Mohammed Al Budawi, Secretary-General of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf, stressed that the stability of the Gulf region is an essential pillar for the stability of the global economy and the security of international navigation.

During his participation in a session on Gulf-European strategic relations held today in the Czech capital, Prague, on the sidelines of the 2026 Globesec Global Security Forum, Al-Budaiwi noted that the GCC countries are always seeking to enhance security, stability, development and prosperity, in a way that serves the common interests of the peoples of the region and the world as a whole, in light of the rapid geopolitical changes the world is witnessing and the growing security and economic challenges, noting that the strategic partnership between the GCC countries and the European Union has contributed to strengthening this.

He said that the participation of the General Secretariat of the Gulf Cooperation Council in the Global Security Forum 2026 reflects its keenness to have an active presence in regional and international forums, and to enhance communication and exchange of visions with international partners, decision-makers and experts, in a way that contributes to supporting efforts aimed at establishing regional and international security and stability, and keeping pace with the rapid changes and challenges that the world is witnessing.

He stated that the region witnessed during the last period many events that greatly affected security and stability, and the GCC countries continued their ongoing diplomatic efforts to reduce the escalation and extinguish the fuse of tension in the region, and to strengthen the paths of dialogue and diplomacy in a way that preserves the security and stability of the region and the safety of its people, noting the extreme importance of protecting the security of air and sea corridors, ensuring freedom of navigation, the safety of supply chains, and the stability of global energy markets.

He explained that recent developments have proven that the security of Europe and the Middle East has become interconnected in an unprecedented way, and that any disturbance in the Gulf region and the surrounding sea lanes directly reflects on the European economy, global energy security, supply chains, and international stability in general, stressing that the stability of the Gulf is no longer only a regional matter, but has become a common international interest.

Regarding the future of Gulf-European relations, His Excellency stated that the two sides are looking forward to developing them to broader horizons, and that the upcoming Gulf-European summit will contribute to enhancing cooperation in many fields and achieving common interests for both sides, pointing to the importance of reaching tangible results that serve both parties and enhance the existing cooperation between them.
