Warsaw, 31st May / WAM / During a session held within the program of the Emirate of Sharjah, Guest of Honor at the fifth session of the Warsaw International Book Fair 2026, entitled “Preserving the Past, Digitizing the Future: Sharjah’s Journey in Its Cultural Heritage,” the Sharjah Archeology Authority reviewed its experience in protecting and documenting cultural heritage and its efforts to employ digital transformation and modern technologies to preserve cultural heritage and enhance its availability to researchers and the public in line with the emirate’s vision of investing in knowledge and preserving memory. culture for future generations.

During the session attended by Dr. Saeed Abdullah bin Yaroof Al Naqbi, Director of the Sharjah Antiquities Authority, and a number of those interested, researchers, academics and visitors in cultural affairs, the Sharjah Archeology Authority presented the pivotal role it plays in protecting, managing and documenting archaeological sites in Sharjah and the continuous efforts it makes in implementing archaeological excavation projects and preserving archaeological finds that document the process of human settlement and successive civilizations in the region over thousands of years.

The session also highlighted the digital transformation projects implemented by the Authority, which include digitizing artifacts and archaeological sites using imaging techniques, 3D scanning, digital modeling, and augmented and virtual reality, which contributes to preserving archaeological data according to the highest scientific standards and enhancing access to and benefiting from it in the fields of scientific research, education, and community awareness. It pointed to the extent of the achievements made by the Authority in the field of documenting archaeological sites and artifacts, and the role of these initiatives in supporting cultural sustainability, enhancing national identity, and consolidating awareness of the importance of cultural heritage as one of the most important tributaries of cognitive development.

Amna Mahmoud Al Ali, Director of the Government Communications Department at the Sharjah Antiquities Authority, confirmed that the Authority’s participation in the Warsaw International Book Fair reflects the Authority’s commitment to enhancing its knowledge and cultural presence on the international scene and introducing the pioneering experience offered by the Emirate of Sharjah in the fields of cultural heritage protection, archaeological research and scientific documentation. She explained that the Authority launches its projects from an integrated vision that combines preserving the cultural heritage and employing the latest digital technologies to ensure its sustainability and availability for future generations.

She said that preserving cultural heritage is no longer limited to traditional excavations and documentation, but has become closely linked to innovation and modern technology, which the Sharjah Antiquities Authority is working to consolidate through advanced digitization and documentation projects that contribute to preserving sites and artifacts and enriching the knowledge content associated with them. These efforts provide broader opportunities for researchers, those interested, and the public to learn about the region’s history and cultural heritage in modern and interactive ways.

She added that this session represents an important opportunity to review Sharjah’s experience before a specialized international audience and highlight the emirate’s qualitative achievements in the field of heritage preservation and management in accordance with international best practices. It also emphasizes the importance of cooperation between cultural and research institutions in supporting the sustainability of human heritage and enhancing its role as a bridge for dialogue and understanding between peoples in line with Sharjah’s cultural mission and vision to make knowledge and culture two basic pillars of sustainable development.
