“Scandal” postpones the South African national team’s travel to the World Cup

The South African delegation failed to leave the country to participate in the FIFA World Cup as planned on Sunday, because some players and officials did not obtain entry visas 10 days before their opening match against Mexico, one of the host countries of the tournament, which will be watched by millions around the world.
The team was scheduled to leave on a private plane heading to its training camp in the Mexican city of Pachuca, but this was postponed while the South African Football Association attempted to complete the required papers.
Sports Minister Gayton McKenzie said in a post on the “X” platform: “The scandal related to travel and visas caused by the South African Federation is embarrassing and completely unfair. They made us look like fools.”
