Al Dhaheri wins second and third places and leads the overall standings of the championship "Formula" Regional

Brussels, June 1, 2017 – Emirati driver Rashid Al Dhaheri topped the overall standings of the FIA Formula Regional Championship, following the conclusion of the third round yesterday at the Belgian Spa-Francorchamps circuit.

The round, which was organized during the period from May 28 to 31 with the participation of 30 drivers from more than 20 countries, witnessed Al Dhaheri achieving distinguished results that strengthened his lead in the championship, after he climbed to the podium twice by finishing second in the first race and third in the second race.

Al Dhaheri gave a strong performance in the qualifying trials, recording the fastest time in his group during the two qualifying sessions, and he also achieved the fastest lap in the second race, despite the volatile weather conditions witnessed by the competitions on the famous Belgian circuit.

In the first race, the start of which was delayed due to heavy rain, Al Dhaheri maintained his position among the leaders until the finish line, finishing second, 0.137 seconds behind the winner. He also continued his brilliance in the second race, and was able to finish in third place after a long period of safety car intervention that prevented changes in positions during the final laps.

With these results, Al Dhaheri left Belgium leading the overall standings of the championship, before the fourth round scheduled for mid-June at the Italian Monza circuit.

Rashid Al Dhaheri said that the Spa circuit is one of the most difficult circuits in the world, noting that the changing weather conditions raised the level of challenge during the round, and that he succeeded in making the most possible use of the available data, stressing that topping the championship represents an important step, while the focus is currently on the next round.
