Under the patronage of Sheikha Fatima, the International Women’s Bowling Championship begins on June 11

ABU DHABI, June 5, 2017 – Under the generous patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, “Mother of the Emirates”, President of the General Women’s Union, President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation, and under the directives of Sheikha Fatima bint Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of the Fatima Bint Mubarak Women’s Sports Academy, President of the Abu Dhabi Ladies Club and Al Ain Ladies Club, the Fatima Bint Mubarak Academy announced For women’s sports, organizing the International Women’s Bowling Championship during the period from 11 to 14 June and opening a new bowling alley at the academy’s headquarters.

The Academy confirmed, in its statement today, that the inauguration of the new hall comes within the framework of embodying the vision of the wise leadership by providing an integrated sports environment that encourages women to practice sports, and motivates them to adopt a healthy and balanced lifestyle, and its keenness to provide modern and integrated sports facilities for women, in accordance with the highest technical and organizational standards approved in the sport of bowling.

She praised Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak’s continuous and great support for women, and Her Highness’s keenness to enhance their role and empower them, and enhance their journey in various fields, by providing facilities, programs and initiatives that contribute to enriching their sporting, cultural and societal presence.

She added that the new hall is a qualitative addition to the academy’s facilities, with a design in accordance with the highest international standards approved in the sport of bowling, and the latest technical equipment and modern operating systems, ensuring the provision of an integrated sports experience for female players. It is also distinguished by the fact that it is entirely dedicated to women.

She pointed out that the first edition of the tournament in the new hall will be held in cooperation with the Emirates Bowling Federation and the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, with the participation of more than 50 players from inside and outside the country, in addition to the national team players and people of determination, and is classified internationally for participation from different levels, locally and internationally, within individual and group competitions with the aim of developing women’s sports, and the calendar of tournaments and sports events organized by the academy annually.

For her part, Her Excellency Dr. Omniyat Mohammed Al Hajri, Vice Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Fatima Bint Mubarak Women’s Sports Academy, said that the opening of the new bowling alley is an important step within the academy’s plans to provide specialized and modern sports facilities for women, and provide them with the opportunity to practice bowling in an integrated environment that takes into account the highest quality standards.

She stated that organizing the tournament in conjunction with the opening of the hall reinforces her keenness for this facility to be a real platform for discovering talents, developing the capabilities of female players, and enhancing sports competition.

She pointed out that the tournament enjoys distinguished participation by female players at various levels, and is supervised by an all-female refereeing team, which embodies the pivotal role of women in the various elements of the sports system, whether as a player, a referee, or an organiser, stressing that the academy will continue to support programs and tournaments that contribute to consolidating the culture of sports, and enhancing women’s participation in local and international sporting events.
