🔹The World Food Program and its partners hope to reach 340,000 refugees from South Sudan with purchase vouchers, while UNICEF and its partners continue to provide safe drinking water to about 15,500 people in Kosti, Tendelti and Al-Jabalin.
At the same time, OCHA warned that conditions are deteriorating with the onset of the rainy season. Severe water and sanitation shortages affect an estimated 1.1 million people in South Darfur, increasing the risk of cholera and other waterborne diseases. Local responders are continuing their efforts to address disease outbreaks in several states.
Drone attacks continue
Meanwhile, the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) remains concerned about continued drone strikes and insecurity affecting civilians and humanitarian access.
Reports indicate that recent attacks in the Kordofan region resulted in the killing of at least 15 civilians, the injury of many others, and the damage to civilian infrastructure, including a major bridge in South Kordofan that is vital for civilian movement and the delivery of aid.
Tribal violence in Darfur
OCHA also expressed concern about tribal violence in Darfur. Recent clashes in South Darfur state resulted in the deaths of at least 16 people and the displacement of an estimated 13,500 others.
The United Nations renewed its call on all parties to protect civilians and civilian infrastructure, and to facilitate rapid, safe, unhindered and sustainable access to humanitarian aid. She stressed the importance of obtaining additional financing, which is critical to providing life-saving assistance to millions of people in need throughout Sudan.
