Mohammed Al-Murr presents the National Archives and Library with a rare visual record documenting Sheikh Zayed’s first visit to Pakistan.

ABU DHABI, June 14 / WAM / His Excellency Mohammed Ahmed Al Murr, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Archives and Library, presented a group of rare historical photographs dating back to 1967, led by a group documenting aspects of the life of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, “may God rest his soul,” during his first visit to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan after assuming the reins of government in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, at an important historical stage that witnessed the launch of the construction and development process that he led and contributed to. Consolidating the country’s position regionally and internationally.

This gift comes as an extension of His Excellency Al-Murr’s continuing efforts to support the National Archives and Library and enrich its holdings with rare historical photos and documents of national and documentary value, thus enhancing its role in preserving the national memory and preserving the state’s heritage for future generations.

The dedication includes four sets of rare photographs that address different topics and stages in the history of the United Arab Emirates, the most prominent of which are photographs documenting aspects of Das Island, and others that monitor the visit of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, “may God rest his soul,” to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.

Al Nahyan, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, Sheikh Mubarak bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, His Highness Sheikh Surour bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, and His Excellency Ahmed Khalifa Al Suwaidi, along with a number of companions and officials.

His Excellency Dr. Abdullah Majid Al Ali, Director General of the National Archives and Library, welcomed this valuable gift, stressing that this collection represents a qualitative addition to the collections of the Archives and the National Library, because of the great historical and national value it carries, and the rare visual documentation it contains of prominent stations in the founder and builder’s journey, and his efforts to strengthen fraternal relations and cooperation with brotherly and friendly countries.

His Excellency said that historical photographs are among the most important documentary sources that contribute to completing the historical narrative and documenting its details, because they bear direct evidence of the events, personalities, and transformations that the country witnessed at various stages of its history, indicating that this collection will form an important source for researchers, scholars, and those interested in the history of the United Arab Emirates.

He expressed his deep appreciation to His Excellency Mohammed Ahmed Al-Murr, appreciating his continued keenness to support the efforts of the Archives and the National Library in collecting, preserving and documenting rare historical sources, and his continuing contributions to supplying the national memory with collectibles, documents and images of great cognitive and historical value.

His Excellency praised His Excellency’s initiative, stressing that it embodies a high national awareness of the importance of preserving historical documents and collectibles, and represents a role model for social responsibility towards the national heritage and encourages owners of private collections and individuals to donate the documents, photos and historical collectibles in their possession to the National Archives and Library, to ensure their preservation, preservation and availability in accordance with the best international archival standards and practices.

He explained that the National Archives and Library are continuing their efforts to attract and preserve historical documents and images of national value, as they are an integral part of the nation’s memory and an essential component of the national identity, and in a way that contributes to consolidating knowledge of the country’s history and highlighting its achievements and civilizational path.

Since these images are of great historical and documentary importance in enriching the archival content, the work of cataloguing them and their artistic and archival processing is currently being completed, and preserving them in accordance with the professional procedures and standards approved by the Archives and the National Library, in preparation for adding them to the collections and holdings of the Presidential Archives Department, and benefiting from them in the national documentary exhibitions organized by the Archives and the National Library, in addition to employing them in its research and documentation projects and historical publications that contribute to preserving the memory of the nation.
