Sondos Rehab wins the title of Champion of the Arab Reading Challenge at the Al-Azhar Al-Sharif level

Cairo, June 17, 2017 (WAM): Student Sondos Muhammad Al-Sayed Rehab won the title of Champion of the Arab Reading Challenge in its tenth session at the level of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif in the Arab Republic of Egypt, out of two million and 929 thousand and 597 male and female students, representing 9,879 Al-Azhar institutes and under the supervision of 8,810 male and female supervisors.
The student Sondos Muhammad Al-Sayed Rehab, from the ninth grade at the Damanhour Model Girls Institute in the Beheira region, was crowned with the title, during the closing ceremony of the tenth session of the Arab Reading Challenge at the level of Al-Azhar, which was held in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, in the presence of His Excellency Hamad Obaid Al-Zaabi, the Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to the Arab Republic of Egypt, and His Eminence Sheikh Ayman Abdul-Ghani, Acting Undersecretary of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, and with the participation of Dr. Fawzan Al-Khalidi, Director of Programs and Initiatives at the “Mohamed bin Mohammed Initiatives” Foundation. Rashid Al Maktoum International,” in addition to officials, educators, and a large number of parents of students participating in the qualifiers for the tenth session at the level of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif.
Student Muhammad Al-Amir Zakaria Riyad, from the seventh grade at the Dr. Talaat Al-Sayed Model Preparatory Institute for Boys in the Cairo region, won first place in the People of Determination category, in which 3,910 male and female students participated.
The closing ceremony also honored the Beni Suef region for winning first place in the “Distinguished Supervisor” category.
Ten male and female students qualified for the finals at the Al-Azhar level, and the list included, in addition to the student Sondos Muhammad Al-Sayed Rehab, Hussein Hazem Hussein, from the ninth grade at the Sharm El-Sheikh Model Institute in the South Sinai region, Haneen Muhammad Omar Ahmed, from the twelfth grade at the Fouad Khamis Girls’ Institute (Al-Sharqiya), Abdel-Rahman Ahmed Gamal, from the fifth grade at the Kafr El-Sheikh Khalil Primary Institute (Menoufia), and Jana Moamen Al-Sayed. Ibrahim, from the tenth grade at the Smouha Model Girls’ Institute (Alexandria), Ruqaya Wael Ali Al-Tanja, from the eleventh grade at the Qalin Secondary Girls’ Institute (Kafr El-Sheikh), Mai Khaled Muhammad Abdel Rahman, from the eighth grade at the Damira Preparatory Secondary Girls’ Institute (Dakahlia), Heba Mustafa Fouad, from the eleventh grade at the Darwa Secondary Girls’ Institute (Minya), and Tasneem Ahmed Eid Abdel Hamid, from the sixth grade at the Dar al-Ramad Primary Institute (Fayoum), Omar Hassan Jamal Hassan, from the eleventh grade at the Port Said Preparatory Secondary Institute for Boys, “Port Said.”
The Arab Reading Challenge was able to achieve an unprecedented achievement, with the number of participants in the qualifiers for its tenth session reaching 40,286,428 students from 60 countries, including 74,062 students of people of determination, an increase of 24% over the ninth session, which witnessed the participation of 32 million, 231,000 students from 50 countries around the world. The tenth session also recorded the participation of 138,426. School, and 161,507 male and female reading supervisors.
His Eminence Sheikh Ayman Abdel Ghani praised the great goals of the Arab Reading Challenge initiative, and the great positive impact it has had on the lives of Arab students since its launch in 2015, in terms of inspiring them to further develop their linguistic capabilities and their tangible interest in the language of the Holy Qur’an, increasing their scientific and cultural knowledge, raising their daily reading rates, and competing to reach high levels of excellence and obtain first places in every session of the Arab Reading Challenge, amid wide participation from tens of millions of students in the Arab world. And the world.
He said that the students of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif recorded, through their participation in the tenth session, a number of achievements in terms of interaction with this reading competition, and the competition to complete a large number of books that exceed the requirements of the challenge, pointing out that this session witnessed impressive results and revealed the remarkable distinction of the students of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, which was achieved through the sincere efforts of the educational staff in all Al-Azhar institutes, and the high coordination with the Arab Reading Challenge teams, and the “Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives” Foundation, which always makes efforts to Appreciable efforts are made to enrich the cultural and educational scene, by launching specific projects and harnessing their potential to serve the Arabic language.
He congratulated the winners and participants, the Al-Azhar institutes, the families of the male and female students, and all parties that provided support during the qualifiers for the tenth session at the level of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif.
For his part, Dr. Fawzan Al-Khalidi praised Al-Azhar Al-Sharif’s adoption of a long-term vision to spread the culture of reading and great interest in the Arabic language, motivating male and female students to read and raise their cognitive and cultural level, and to participate intensively in the Arab Reading Challenge courses until the tenth session, which witnessed exceptional participation from Al-Azhar Al-Sharif students and institutes.
He said that the wide participation of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif students in the tenth session of the Arab Reading Challenge, and the success of the final qualifiers, express Al-Azhar’s keenness to provide a qualitative addition in each new session of the challenge, which is what happened during the tenth session’s competitions. The participants showed high efficiency in comprehension and competed to complete the largest possible number of books during the qualifying stages, which were characterized by great competition and remarkable interaction from the educational family and families of the male and female students participating in this knowledge race.
Al-Khalidi congratulated the first place holders in the challenge categories at the level of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, their families, and all participants and educational staff in Al-Azhar institutes.
The Arab Reading Challenge, which was launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, “may God protect him,” in the year 2015 as the largest reading competition and project in the world, aims to enhance the importance of reading among participating students at the level of the Arab world and the world, establish scientific and cognitive achievement as a daily culture in the lives of students, develop mechanisms for comprehension and self-expression in a sound Arabic language, and develop creative thinking skills, leading to enriching the available cognitive content. The Arabic language and enhancing its status as a language of thought, science, research and creativity.
The challenge seeks to enhance the importance of cognitive reading in building self-learning skills and building the value system of young people by informing them of the values, customs and beliefs of other cultures.
