Trump does not consider Anthropic a threat to American national security

US President Donald Trump said he does not consider Anthropic a threat to national security, days after his administration took steps to cut off foreigners’ access to the company’s latest artificial intelligence models.
In a recorded interview with Axios, Trump said he believed Anthropic “acted very responsibly” after the US Department of Commerce ordered the company, led by its CEO Dario Amodei, to obtain US approval before allowing any foreign national to use the Fable 5 and Mythos 5 models.
“He responded to us very quickly, because you know the extent of the legal liability that entails,” he added, noting that he met Amodei and other technology executives on the sidelines of the G7 summit in Evian-les-Bains, France, on Wednesday.
When asked if he thought Anthropic and Amudi posed a threat to national security, he replied: “Well, not now. But maybe a week ago.”
