The UAE continues its humanitarian response around the world, from the Philippines to Syria and Africa

Abu Dhabi, June 20 / WAM / The UAE continues to strengthen its urgent humanitarian response around the world, from the Philippines to Syria, through the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda, in a simultaneous move that reflects its established approach to helping those affected by natural disasters and health crises.

This move comes within the framework of the UAE’s commitment to its humanitarian approach based on rapid response and promoting early recovery in areas affected by disasters, as the country’s wise leadership is keen to reach those affected in various circumstances, based on the legacy of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, “may God rest his soul,” in humanitarian giving and global solidarity.

In this context, the UAE response stands out in more than one humanitarian arena around the world, as it rushed, through the Emirates International Aid Agency, to provide urgent support to those affected by the Euphrates River floods in Syria, ensuring the provision of basic relief and shelter needs for the affected families.

UAE humanitarian aid contributed to providing basic support to thousands of beneficiaries, and helped affected families confront the difficult living conditions imposed by the floods, and alleviate the daily burdens they face.

The field work team at the Emirates International Aid Agency carries out field visits and holds meetings with families and concerned local authorities in the affected areas, and learns directly about the conditions of families and their humanitarian needs, in order to ensure that support is directed to those who deserve it and achieve the greatest possible impact on the ground.

In the Philippines, the UAE continues its relief efforts to support those affected by the earthquake that struck the south of the country, which led to casualties, injuries and extensive damage to infrastructure, as the response included providing food baskets and potable water.

The UAE response plan in the coming stages includes distributing more than 20,000 food baskets and 20,000 gallons of potable water, to meet the needs of the affected residents of the province and contribute to strengthening the ability of the affected families to overcome the repercussions of the earthquake.

Her Excellency Lorelei Pacquiao, Mayor of General Santos City, praised the urgent humanitarian aid provided by the UAE to those affected by the earthquake in the southern Philippines, stressing that this support reflects the UAE’s established humanitarian values ​​and contributes to alleviating the suffering of families and children and providing the basic needs of those affected.

UAE humanitarian aid extended to the global health sector, by supporting the World Health Organization’s efforts to contain the outbreak of the Ebola virus on the African continent, within the framework of a vision that considers health security an integral part of global human security, and pushes towards strengthening epidemic response capabilities before they escalate.

The UAE contributed to supporting international relief and logistical operations to combat the Ebola outbreak in both the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda, in cooperation with international partners, through medical shipments and vital supplies that strengthened the ability of health systems to confront the crisis.

Previous Emirati efforts emerged during this year in the areas of disaster response, including supporting those affected by floods in Malaysia and Mozambique, and providing food and shelter aid to Kenya, which is facing the challenges of drought, within the framework of a consistent policy that places people at the heart of the country’s humanitarian priorities.

These ongoing efforts reflect the UAE’s leading position in the field of humanitarian and relief work at the international level, based on a well-established approach that places people at the heart of its priorities, and is based on the vision of its wise leadership to extend a helping hand to affected communities and enhance their ability to recover.
