Saving a newborn from a complex pulmonary embolism at Hira Hospital

The neonatal intensive care team at Hiraa General Hospital – a member of the Makkah Al-Mukarramah Health Cluster – achieved a qualitative medical achievement, which was saving a newborn infant from a rare, critical respiratory condition, in an intervention that reflects the high level of preparedness and advanced specialized competence enjoyed by the hospital’s medical staff.
The infant had arrived at Hiraa General Hospital on his second day of life, transferred from one of the other hospitals, and was suffering from severe respiratory distress that required urgent and immediate medical intervention. As a result, he was immediately admitted to the neonatal intensive care department, where the medical team began implementing critical care protocols using ventilators, in addition to conducting a series of advanced laboratory and diagnostic tests.
Hira General Hospital explained that the accurate diagnosis of the case was made after the integration of medical efforts between the intensive care team and the radiology department.
Hira General Hospital added that the medical team developed an integrated treatment plan that included advanced respiratory support, intensive respiratory therapy, and the use of antibiotics, with careful and continuous monitoring of vital indicators. These efforts, thanks to God, resulted in a noticeable gradual improvement in the condition, as the infant was successfully separated from ventilators, and the lungs regained their normal functions within ten days of intensive medical care, bringing it to a stage of complete stability.
