The UAE expresses its deep concern about the continued military escalation in the Sudanese city of El Obeid

The UAE expresses its concern about the continued military escalation by both sides of the conflict in a number of areas of Sudan, including the city of El Obeid, and the resulting losses among civilians and the aggravation of the humanitarian crisis, stressing its categorical rejection of targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure, and the need for both sides of the conflict to allow all civilians to leave and provide them with safe passages.

The UAE stressed that the urgent priority is to reach an immediate humanitarian truce and a permanent ceasefire, ensuring the protection of civilians and allowing safe and unhindered access of humanitarian aid to all affected areas, in light of the deteriorating humanitarian conditions.

The UAE renewed its support for the efforts of the international “Quartet” aimed at achieving sustainable peace in Sudan, which contributes to reaching an immediate and unconditional ceasefire and an urgent humanitarian truce, and paves the way for a comprehensive political path with civilian leadership.

The UAE also praised the international and regional efforts made, including the outcomes of the Berlin Conference, and the calls to end the war and launch a comprehensive, civilian-led political process, affirming its full support for these endeavors aimed at putting an end to human suffering and protecting civilians.

The UAE also welcomed the efforts of the Five-Year Mechanism to support a comprehensive political path, and the consultations held in Addis Ababa during the period from June 3 to 5, regarding moving forward towards establishing the preparatory committee for the comprehensive Sudanese-Sudanese dialogue.

The UAE reiterated its emphasis on the importance of giving priority to political solutions and supporting a comprehensive and independent civil transition process that reflects the aspirations of the brotherly Sudanese people towards security, stability and a decent life.
