“Tabuk Specialty” saves a patient from severe heart and lung failure

A medical team in Al-Wajh Governorate, in cooperation with the Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) team at King Fahd Specialist Hospital in Tabuk, was able to save the life of a patient who suffered acute heart and lung failure, after an urgent medical intervention that embodied the integration of the health system in the region.
The condition began when the patient arrived at the emergency department at Al Wajh Hospital, suffering from severe chest pain and severe shortness of breath, while initial examinations showed serious indicators that required immediate therapeutic intervention, as she suffered acute respiratory failure, followed by temporary cardiac arrest, which required the medical team to install a membrane oxygenation device of the type “VA-ECMO” to provide temporary support for the functions of the heart and lungs, which contributed to stabilizing the patient’s vital signs and preparing her for safe transfer to King Fahd Specialist Hospital.
