"Industry and advanced technology"NYU Abu Dhabi signs a memorandum of understanding to accelerate the transformation of applied research into industrial solutions
ABU DHABI, June 29 / WAM / The Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology and New York University Abu Dhabi, as a major strategic partner within a network of partners nationwide, signed a memorandum of understanding to cooperate in launching the platform to support the development of advanced technology, ScaleUp Hub, which is an integrated platform that brings together emerging companies and enablers within the industrial innovation system.
The platform provides startups with access to knowledge, resources, and collaboration opportunities, supporting the goals of technology localization in the country and enabling entrepreneurship, by linking researchers and laboratories at NYU Abu Dhabi with startups, industrial partners, and investors.
The memorandum was signed by His Excellency Osama Amir Fadl, Assistant Undersecretary for the Industrial Accelerators Sector at the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology, and Fabio Piano, Acting Vice President of NYU Abu Dhabi.
The platform aims to enable the joint development, localization and expansion of advanced technologies, and to support their transition from the idea stage to application, in line with the objectives of the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology in developing technology and accelerating the localization of advanced industrial solutions, to enhance national industrial flexibility, support supply chains, and raise the industrial sector’s contribution to the gross domestic product.
The platform constitutes a major axis in this cooperation and was designed within the framework of the Ministry’s efforts to enhance the link between scientific research and industrial applications, to support the acceleration of the transformation of academic research outputs into applicable solutions and industrial expansion in a way that accelerates the development of advanced technologies in areas such as additive manufacturing, robotics, automation, and smart materials.
His Excellency Hassan Jassim Al Nowais, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology, said: “Our partnership with New York University Abu Dhabi reflects the UAE government’s approach in employing qualitative partnerships to build an integrated system that links scientific research with practical application, and contributes to enhancing the readiness of the industrial sector for future requirements and enhancing flexibility and sustainability of supply chains, through localization of technology and support for emerging companies, in line with the objectives of the National Strategy for Industry and Advanced Technology, and the “Make in the Emirates” initiative.
He added: “As part of this national trend, the ScaleUp Hub platform brings together startups, the industrial sector, and key partners in a structured environment to jointly develop, test, and scale solutions, which helps transform ideas from mere concepts into marketable products. By strengthening this link between research, industry, and entrepreneurship, we are creating the necessary paths to translate innovation into real industrial capacity and long-term economic value.”
For his part, Fabio Piano, Acting Vice President of NYU Abu Dhabi, said: “At NYU Abu Dhabi, our academic research is based on the context of the United Arab Emirates, and is connected to the global network of NYU. This collaboration constitutes a systematic path to transforming our research into industrial applications on the ground, by connecting researchers with startups and partners in industry sectors. Through the ScaleUp Hub platform, we work to support testing and verification processes and expand the manufacturing of technologies, in line with the industrial priorities of the United Arab Emirates.”
The cooperation will provide a broader package of initiatives that support the establishment and growth of startups, including specialized guidance, innovation challenges, and participation in global exchange programs, thus strengthening the links between academic circles, the industrial sector, and the startup ecosystem.
The cooperation will also support the localization and expansion of high-impact technologies, in line with national industrial priorities and contribute to building a more integrated industrial innovation system ready for the future.
